Overview
Tripper is a pre-launch weekend day trip website with the intent of connecting millennials living in New York City to weekend day trips around the tri-state. The idea was conceptualized by speaking with millennials and identifying a common trend among young adults in their late 20s to early 30s wanting to escape the confines of New York City and travel to remote locations but, lacking the necessary means of transportation. Our goal is to partner with the Hampton Jitney which will give us the ability to connect individuals to various destinations during the companies off season operation schedule.

Initial Problem Statement
How might we connect individuals in their late 20s to early 30s that live in New York City with finding plans on the weekend that are easily accessible without a car or to much travel planning?
Research Tools
Research Phase 1
Screener Survey
We sent out a screener to get an idea as to what millennials were doing on the weekends. From those results, we sent out a more detailed survey looking to identify travel habits of millennials living in New York and how they planned their weekends over the course of a month.
Research Phase 2
Connecting with Potential Users
From the screener/survey responses we conducted 6 user interviews, either in person or via google hangout.
Many candidates expressed an interest in wanting to take part in weekend actives like hiking, visiting apple orchards, and seasonal activities. But, struggled getting to these locations due to lack of access to a car and public transportation only bring them half the distance.
We synthesized all of our findings and moved to the next stage creating an affinity map.
Personas
Two personas were created based on our research findings: Kelly our primary who does not own a car, and Greg our secondary persona, who has access to a family car.
Research Phase 3
Competitive/Comparative Analysis
The focus of our research began by looking at many international and national travel companies. We found that many offered great options, but were based on a short-stay vacation. But, we wanted to appeal more to locals looking to escape to nearby destinations.
Business Strategy
We need to decide how we would make money:
- Hiring drivers and buying vehicles?
- Profiting off of bookings?
- Incentives for drivers?
- Sourcing long term drivers?
After discussing incentives for drivers and trying to figure out how we would source them. We decided to follow the business model of Expedia and Kayak by scraping to aggregate trips.
Revised Problem Statement
How might we provide options for these individuals to escape the city at an affordable cost without advanced planning?
Design Tools
Initial Wireframes
Our initial sketches were based on designing and creating an iOS App.
Pivot
iOS to Responsive Web
Meeting with a team of developers and running through our MVP/features. It was strongly suggested that we should consider switching platforms to increase user audience and decrease development time.
Design Studio & Ideation
From design studio a MoSCoW map was created to distinguish key features. We focused our designs based off of what our users must have and should have.
Usability Testing
Two rounds of usability testing was conducted with 3 scenarios and tasks. In between the two rounds iterations were made and the product was re-tested.
